Investment 2020 - the future of finance

Columbia Threadneedle Investments is pleased to be part of Investment 2020, an initiative by leading UK investment firms to offer hundreds of young people from diverse backgrounds a first job in The City. Investment 2020 aims to offer a total of over a 100 newly-created 12 month paid trainee roles primarily to school leavers and graduates, regardless of background and education.

There are many areas for our successful candidates to join Columbia Threadneedle Investments Investments and they will have a rotation between two of the following areas:

  • Investments team
  • Distribution and sales
  • IT, Performance and Client Reporting, Finance and Investment Operations.

The applications stage for our Columbia Threadneedle Investments Trainee Programme will be conducted during the period April 2017 through until 1st June 2017.

Investment 2020  is an initiative by leading UK investment firms to offer hundreds of young people from diverse backgrounds a first job in the City. Columbia Threadneedle Investments is a big supporter of the scheme, which we joined in 2013, when we hired four individuals, three of whom eventually accepted a full time position. Since 2013 we have welcomed 15 people to the firm via 2020.

Cory Unal
"I work within the Fixed Income Client Portfolio Manager team, which is an intermediary between the fund managers and the sales team. Since joining, I have had fantastic exposure to the fixed income side of the business - through morning meetings, client-oriented market commentary and ad-hoc market analysis. For example, I have spent time analysing the Emerging Markets IG universe, attempting to single out firms with weak credit positions and significant country specific risk such as Brazil that may be possible fallen-angel candidates."

Ryan Smart
"I'm based within the Multi-asset team and have already worked on a number of interesting projects. For example I was asked to provide some analysis on Chinese labour markets, and, more specifically, put forth an overview of productivity and wage developments by sector. I've also spent some time analysing the Australian economy whilst trying to think about the impact of future developments on our (multi-asset) Australian government bond positions. I'm currently collaborating with other analysts on the development of a European IG credit signal that highlights potential stresses in the market."

Ben Rodriguez
"I'm currently working on the Broker Sales Support Desk. My daily tasks are largely made up of supporting of the sales team and helping with client requests, updates and monitoring."

Harry Lister
"I am currently in the Product Management team and my main project has so far been a share class audit across the OEIC and SICAV fund ranges. Other tasks have included market research into Managed Funds products, fund flows analysis and helping to automate some of the team's monthly procedures."

Jordan Mildwater
"I am currently working within Reporting and Information Services, aiding with the transition between an old KIID reporting system into a new one, in order to make the monthly client reporting regime more efficient."
